The Centre of Attention is a young London-based contemporary art gallery. Its curatorial independence is quite unique in that it is not commercial; nor is it sponsored or supported by any state organisation.
This magazine, the second issue, is a video edition featuring works, words and images from past shows including Oreet Ashery, Franko B, Carlos Bayala, Mel Brimfield, Luke Caulfield, Claire Heathcote, Katharina Heilein, Eric Heist, Sebastian Hempel, Jasper Joffe, Wawa Kosugi, Josie McCoy, Shaheen Merali, Gary O'Dwyer, Genesis P-Orridge, Catherine Rive, Carly Rogers, June Sira, Leon Steele, George Toth, Markus Vater, Emily Wardill, Liu Zheng.

Before 10 p.m., Künstlerhaus Bethanien will also open its studios with artists including Michelle Alperin (USA), Marc Bijl (NL), Nuno Cera (P), Sue de Beer (USA), Jon Mikel Euba (E), Markus Huemer (A), Philip Huyghe (B), Gunilla Klingberg/Peter Geschwind (S), Hajnal Németh (HU), Vanessa Jane Phaff (NL), Scott Redford (Aus), Børre Saethre (N), Joel Verwimp (B). An alternative celebration of Russian Orthodox New Year will take place after 10p.m, featuring Antal Lakner, Ciganomania / DJ Krishan, TRansnational Republic and Nicoletta Agostini . Entrance is free.

The Centre of Attention ist eine non profit-Galerie in London, deren erklärtes Ziel es ist, ein permanentes Forum für die neue, 'europäische' Generation aufstrebender Londoner Künstler zu bieten. Das Centre of Attention Video Magazine, das wir zeigen, gibt einen Überblick über die Aktivitäten der Galerie und in einer Art 'best of' Einblick in die neusten Ausstellungen, in kurze Künstlervideos und BBC-Interviews. Das Spektrum reicht von der morbiden Faszination einer Aderlass-Performance von Franko B über Josie McCoy Seligsprechung von Soap-Stars bis hin zu Oreet Ashery und ihren spektakulären Performances als Rabbi. Sebastian Hempel beschäftigt sich mit kinetischer Kunst, Katharina Heilein zeigt ihre Architekturprojekte. Bei Gary O'Dwyer, Eric Heist und Genesis P-Orridge wird die gewitzt-ironische Betrachtungsweise der britischen Kunst der 90er in eine Recherche um Sinn und Sinnlosigkeit, Sucht und Begehren überführt. Wir laden Sie herzlich zum Russischen Neujahrsfest am 13. Januar 2002 ein.
