Marty St James
Marty St James works in Performance Art, Video and Installation
Art. His video portraits include the 11-channel work The Swimmer
and two others commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery in
London. He has undertaken several residencies including: Kunstakademiet,
Tronheim, Norway (1993); 101 Gallery Ottawa, Canada (1991); Banff
Centre For The Arts Canada (1999) and has shown in major venues
accross the UK.
St.James has represented the UK in British Council shows including
Metropolitan Museum of Photography in Tokyo (1998) and Contemporary
Art Museum, Nagoya (1995). The National Portrait Gallery selected
his video diptych boy/girl to represent the year 2000 in its recent
exhibition of portrait masterpieces of the twentieth century. In
2001, he had solo shows in London, Russia and Germany."
