'Was ever such a tohubohu of people as there assembles? You can't be tranquil, if you will. Organs pipe and scream without cease at your windows. Your name is put down in the papers when you arrive; and everybody meets everybody ever so many times a day.' Thackeray

The centre of attention magazine no.4 is a group exhibition as a magazine as a video art compilation as a feature length documentary as a quiet evening in front of the tv as art.

Produced roughly every two years it began on paper in 1999, had two outings as vhs and this 4th edition is produced on dvd.

...Within the hubbub, the puffery, networking and funding and promoting, predictable politics as brand positioning, spectacle and the vampiric nature of art pr, the magazine aporetically provides a thread rather than a platform. It doesn't aim to educate or entertain. It makes a demand on your time when you have no space for it, and all it may bring is a pleasure of isolating particular sounds amongst all the noise, remembering ideas that you had forgotten, and a singularity that you can't quite place...

Includes: Al and Al, Allsopp and Weir, Rachel Brooksby, David Critchley, Ben Cummins, the House of O'Dwyer, Susanne Oberbeck, Eileen Perrier, Erica Scourti, Anthony Schrag, Thomson and Craighead, Julie Wells...

'The Centre of Attention présente en avant-première 'the Centre of Attention magazine n4'. Artistes incluent: Al and Al, Allsopp and Weir, Rachel Brooksby, The Centre of Attention, David Critchley, Ben Cummins, the House of O'Dwyer, Susanne Oberbeck, Eileen Perrier, Anna Rotar, Erica Scourti, Anthony Schrag, Thomson and Craighead, Julie Wells...'
